I work at the intersection of AI governance, institutional design, and grassroots delivery. I founded and lead NISA, a registered NGO in India. We build programmes from scratch, manage 100+ contributors, and design participatory needs assessments with women in local communities. On the research side, I study how international governance bodies allocate authority. My focus is power concentration in frontier AI and the role of middle powers and the Global South.
My work moves between research, operations, and field-building. The common thread is building. I have started one organisation from scratch. I want to start another, this time in AI safety.
My intellectual interests are extreme concentration of power, gradual disempowerment, what nuclear and arms control treaties can teach us about AI governance, international cooperation, the role of middle powers in AI deployment, the Global South lens in the great AI race, the economic and societal impacts of AGI, and s-risks and suffering-focused ethics.
Choosing AI Safety Deliberately
I came to AI safety deliberately. I used the INT framework—importance, neglectedness, and tractability—to decide where to put my energy. AGI will transform the world as we know it. It carries catastrophic risks, including x-risk and s-risks, that could affect millions if not billions of sentient beings. Governance is one of the few levers we have, and it is still neglected.
I have co-developed a concentration-reversibility-efficiency index to score multilateral AI governance frameworks. I have co-authored work on AI verification regimes and political capture in Indian elections. I have synthesised over 100 legislative documents into policy briefs, three of which were cited in parliamentary debate. I also write on Substack about power, policy, and the Global South.
Execution Meets Ideas
I am equally comfortable building a team from zero and drafting a policy brief. I have hired, onboarded, and managed remote and field teams across time zones. I have designed programmes based on original survey data from 200+ respondents. I believe good governance requires both strong ideas and strong execution.
"I think the best policy insights often come from stories, not spreadsheets. I care about 'doing good, better.' That means asking hard questions about effectiveness, legitimacy, and who gets to decide."
Beyond the Work
Beyond work, I am a vegetarian and a cinephile. I am an overthinker in the best sense.
I want to connect with people who share that mindset. If you work on equitable AI governance, institutional design, Global South perspectives in tech policy, or building mission-driven teams, let's talk. I am always open to research collaborations, speaking engagements, and fellowships.
